Case in point, Eternals. With a runtime of 2 hours and 37 minutes, Eternals became the second-longest MCU film, which is probably why it was so divisive. Now, Spider-Man: No Way Home is about to give Eternals a run for its money. At least, as far as runtime goes.
Can No Way Home set a new non-Endgame MCU record?
All four of the Avengers films so far have grossed at least $1.4 billion at the global box office. Meanwhile, only five MCU movies have made at least $1 billion. There’s not a single solo feature film in the MCU that has managed to cross the $1 billion mark twice, but it appears that No Way Home might be the first to do it. Although the COVID-19 pandemic continues to ravage the entire world, No Way Home is already setting records. Case in point, No Way Home’s ticket presales are the highest since Endgame. With that said, a longer runtime puts No Way Home in a good position to set a pandemic record. According to Collider’s sources, No Way Home will have a runtime of 2 hours and 30 minutes. As we’ve already mentioned, this would make No Way Home the third-longest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. When you consider that the MCU’s longest entries tend to do the best - even Eternals pulled in more than $370 million at the global box office - No Way Home has a good shot at becoming the first movie during the pandemic to gross over $1 billion. If No Way Home does join the ranks of other Avengers movies, it’s probably because it’s shaping up to be a major event similar to one. There is a massive amount of hype behind No Way Home and rightfully so. It’s not just because Tom Holland’s Spider-Man and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Dr. Stephen Strange are both reprising their roles from previous MCU movies. No Way Home also marks the end of the first MCU Spider-Man trilogy. In addition to this, several legacy characters are joining the fray as well. Earlier trailers confirmed that villains from previous Spider-Man films are expected to appear in No Way Home. Meanwhile, there is mounting evidence pointing to Andrew Garfield and Toby Maguire popping by to lend Holland’s Spider-Man a hand. Judging by how Sony and Disney are reportedly already working on Holland’s next Spider-Man film, it’s clear that executives are confident about how well No Way Home will do at the box office. Thankfully, audiences don’t have to wait too long to find out. In the meantime, Spider-Man fans can watch the first trailer for Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The sequel to Sony’s hit animated Spider-Man movie is expected to launch in theaters on October 7, 2022.
