Ere Santos, senior animator for Sony Pictures Animation’s Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse recently sat down for an exclusive interview with The Direct about the upcoming film. Santos revealed that Across the Spider-Verse will have a mature plot that isn’t suitable for kids. “It was really challenging project,” Santos shared. “So it was a lot of frustrating times, something every production has. But what kind of kept us going was we’d be frustrated, or something would change, or a sequence was cut, and then we’d see a new render, and we’d be like, ‘Okay, alright? Let’s go, let’s go,’ And also, some of the choices characters were making in the story were like, ‘What? Okay, all right.” Santos adds, “This is a kid’s movie? I guess it’s not a kid’s movie. Okay, cool. Yeah, that’s good.’ So it’s very, very, super exciting to me.” The animator adds that the second movie is much more intense than the original. He also said that the upcoming movie will not be redoing what has been previously done in the first film, saying: Santos also revealed that the producers wanted to add Avengers: Endgame-esque elements to the sequel but it did not materialize in the final cut. The animator shared that the movie was very ambitious at the start but things were toned down a little. Spider-Man fans should expect a lot of high-octane action sequences in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. The film will feature even more Spider-people from across the multiverse with some not being very accepting of Miles Morales. There should be a lot of web-slinging and over-the-top acrobatics in the animated sequel as Miles Morales faces off against the Spot. The villain will be part of Across the Spider-Verse and the third movie Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which premieres on June 2 and March 29, 2024, respectively.
