Each installment released so far has revolved around one particular horseman. However, what makes these games so unique and divisive is how THQ has handled every game. For the first Darksiders game, players took control of the rage-fueled War in a Zelda-like game. Meanwhile, in Darksiders 2, the story revolved around the story of the cold and calculating Death in an open-world RPG. The third game, Darksiders 3, put players in the shoes of the enigmatic Fury in a game that closely resembled the Soulsborne titles in gameplay. Finally, the fourth title, Darksiders: Genesis, was an isometric ARPG that was all about the impatient and trigger-happy gunslinger, Strife. Now that THQ Nordic has officially introduced the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, fans have been begging the publisher to work on a true sequel. You see, the events of the Darksiders games don’t line up one after another. The first game is technically set in the present while the rest are all prequels. An actual sequel would see all four siblings appear in a game as they do battle against a still-unknown major behind-the-scenes player that has enough power and influence over the supposed-to-be-neutral Charred Council, as well as Heaven and Hell. Unfortunately, it looks like it will be a while until that happens, if at all. If it’s any consolation, fans will be able to play all Darksiders games on the go, with Darksiders 3 seemingly poised to release on the Nintendo Switch.
When is Darksiders 3 releasing on the Nintendo Switch?
All the Darksiders games are currently available on the Nintendo Switch except for Darksiders 3. A potential Switch port was “teased” back in 2019, but nothing really came of it. Now, three years after its initial release, Darksiders 3 appears to be headed to Nintendo’s portable console. The Switch version of Darksiders 3 appears as a listed game on Videoigr.net, a Russian online store. From what we can make of it, Darksiders 3 is R-18 on the Switch. This matches up with the game’s Mature 17+ ESRB rating on other platforms. The Switch version of Darksiders 3 will also come with The Crucible and Keepers of the Voice DLC content with a September 30, 2021 release date. What is interesting here is that rumors of a Switch port of Darksiders 3 also popped up almost a year ago. Back then, it was linked to the Nintendo Switch Pro. As we all know by now, the more powerful Nintendo Switch console has been “debunked” (there’s really no way of telling if it is indeed in development or not). Instead, Nintendo will release the prettier and bigger Nintendo Switch OLED. More importantly though, the Russian listing suggests that the earlier talks about Darksiders 3 headed to the Nintendo Switch were partly true. Of course, without a confirmed announcement from THQ Nordic nor Nintendo, we recommend that you take this information with a grain of salt.
