The Pokémon Players Cup is the seminal invitational tournament for the popular card game based on everyone’s favorite monster collecting game. The celebration of its 25th anniversary this year isn’t quite as grandiose as it could have been due to the still raging COVID-19 pandemic, but the organizers are doing their best to make the occasion special to viewers tuning in online.
Among the freebies offered up by The Pokémon Company are Secret Rare Quick Ball cards for the TCG’s virtual version, as well as a Coalossal for Pokémon Sword and Shield. This Coalossal will have preset abilities based on what Players Cup champion Wolfe Glick uses, meaning Steam Engine, Heat Wave, Metor Beam, Protect, Solar Beam and a Nature and a Weakness Policy held item. You can tune in to the competition on the official Pokémon Twitch channel right here, where the battles will last from August 13 to August 15. The best players from all around the world will be facing off with their curated decks at the 25th Invitational, which is shaping up to be a tournament for the ages. The Pokémon Trading Card Game is enjoying a healthy season, with the latest Chilling Reign set achieving popularity across all strata of the player community, having introduced new forms of the well known legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres. The game is soon getting another injection of new cards with the Evolving Skies set dropping at the end of august bringing a full array of Eeveelutions and various dragon types. Remember to tune in for the Pokémon Players Cup over the weekend!
