Perhaps because they knew of how convoluted Dota 2’s lore was and still is, they decided to put together a video helping to explain everything. Enter, The World of DOTA.

To help explain DOTA to a lot of viewers who will no doubt find themselves curious if not confused, Netflix enlisted help from some of the most prominent names in the scene. Chief among them is Jake Kanner, otherwise more commonly known by his online monicker, SirActionSlacks. SirActionSlacks fashions himself as the foremost expert in Dota 2’s lore. He even has his own YouTube channel. There, he posts detailed breakdowns and explanations of some of the story-related elements in Dota 2 that players might have missed out on or are curious to know more about. Joining him in the video are Jorien van der Heijden and Owen Davis, known more commonly as Sheever and ODPixel, respectively. Both have worked as analysts, commentators, and/or hosts within the competitive Dota 2 scene for years. With that said, the video, aptly titled “The World of DOTA”, explains the timeline of events that help lead up to the events of Dota 2. This includes the primordial mind, which is the Dota 2 universe’s version of the dense sphere prominently featured in the Big Bang theory, the parallel universes, the physical embodiments of the elements and so much more. As you can see, there’s a lot for beginners to get through. This is why it helps a lot that Netflix released a primer of sorts to help them get acquainted. It certainly does help that each of the creators involved in the video tries their best to keep everything coherent and approach it in a way that even a complete beginner would be able to understand what was going on. The video uses a lot of footage that will eventually be featured in Dragon’s Blood. An adult animation based on Dota 2, it will reportedly follow events that will take place in the middle of the never-ending conflict that fuels the events of the multiplayer title. DOTA: Dragon’s Blood will premiere on Netflix on March 25.
What’s Next for Dota 2?
The video and the anime series arrive just in time for the first big event of the professional Dota 2 scene this 2021. The ONE Esports Singapore Major 2021 will run from March 27 to April 4 with 18 of the best Dota 2 teams from around the globe congregating at the Fairmont Singapore in Singapore with 2,700 Pro Circuit Points and $500,000 on the line.
