This is an excerpt of a longer statement released by one of the moderators of a particular Halo subreddit after the moderating group decided to close the entire sub for a weekend due to toxicity within the group getting well out of hand.

The growing animosity towards Halo Infinite is not a good sign

Halo Infinite technically still hasn’t been released yet. 343 Industries confirmed that the early release of the free-to-play multiplayer is effectively just the game’s beta period and that there will be massive changes to Halo Infinite come December 8, 2021. However, while gamers have praised Halo Infinite’s gameplay and visuals, many can’t help but complain about how the game’s battle pass works and also the rampant amount of cheaters. With that said, the locked-out Halo subreddit quickly became a cesspool for personal insults and inappropriate behavior. Things reportedly got so bad that certain users went as far as to issue death threats against others, while some resorted to doxxing. Although some toxicity over the internet is understandable, certain situations can escalate if left unchecked. This is why moderators in similar communities are so important. After locking out the subreddit for a weekend, the mods will probably be busy cleaning up any posts that might have gotten out of hand while also issuing suspension to users that took part in the toxicity. Ultimately, the negative views on Halo Infinite are not a good sign for 343 Industries. It’s clear that the studio still has a lot of work to do to satisfy its player base. As we’ve already mentioned, 343 needs to introduce a better battle pass for Halo Infinite. Despite the recent changes, the battle pass remains unimpressive at best. It also doesn’t help that 343 doesn’t have a concrete plan to address cheaters in Halo Infinite. The good news here is that Halo Infinite’s single-player campaign is shaping up to be one of the best in the series. Not to mention, Halo Infinite’s file size means that Xbox owners won’t have to worry about running into storage issues once the full game comes out.
