We saw hesitant supervillains and anti-heroes alike drop like flies to the point that there was no longer much of a squad left once the credits started rolling. However, while most of the fatalities in the film were final, James Gunn just confirmed that one member secretly survived and is alive and well at the end of the film.

The Detachable Kid clung to his life

The writer-director of the soft reboot of Suicide Squad talked about how one particular member managed to walk away alive at a recent Watch Party on Twitter. According to Gunn, you could see that TDK is alive “if you look at the life signals in the Comms hub” before going on to tag the actor, Nathan Fillion. Because of this, we can’t help but wonder if other members of The Suicide Squad looked dead but are still alive. After all, it initially looked like John Cena’s Peacemaker wasn’t going to make it.

— James Gunn (@JamesGunn) August 31, 2021 For those that haven’t watched The Suicide Squad yet, TDK is a metahuman who can telekinetically control his detachable arms and legs. He was part of the first Task Force X strike team that Amanda Waller sent to Corto Maltese. Unfortunately, TDK met an untimely demise not long after an encounter with the island’s soldiers. Or, at least, that’s what the film led audiences to believe. Now that Gunn has confirmed that TDK is alive, we might just see him make an appearance in Peacemaker, if not future The Suicide Squad films and/or spin-offs. Speaking of spin-offs, Gunn recently shot down talks that a Bloodsport standalone film or TV series was in the works. Of course, he didn’t exactly go on to say that he’s not open to working on it. Rather, he simply confirmed that it’s not in development.

What’s next for James Gunn?

After spending time working for the DCEU with The Suicide Squad and the upcoming HBO Max TV series, Peacemaker, James Gunn will now go back to direct and write his third MCU film, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. Gunn is also the executive producer of Thor: Love and Thunder, which will feature Christian Bale as Gorr, the God Butcher.
