The appointment will be given to the game’s director, Nate Fox, and the creative director, Jason Connel, and it will reportedly last until the two individuals “no longer wish to have it”. However, because of travel restrictions, the ceremony will have to be held online. The pair will receive a letter of appreciation and an award as part of the ceremony. Tsushima mayor Hiroki Hitakatsu also confirmed that he would like to invite the entire Sucker Punch team to the island once travel restrictions have been restricted. In addition to this, Sony Interactive Entertainment and the island’s government are collaborating to make a new tourism campaign based on the game. This will mark the first time that the island has awarded this distinction to someone who, according to the mayor, “has spread the name and history of Tsushima through their works.”
What Is Ghost of Tsushima?
Ghost of Tsushima is an open-world action-adventure game that’s exclusive to the PlayStation 4. It launched in July of 2020 and puts players in the shoes of a samurai named Jin Sakai who must protect Tsushima. It is set during the 13th century, specifically, around 1274, with a story based on the first Mongol invasion of Japan. While the game’s protagonist and other parts of the title are all fictional, Fox claimed in a previous interview that the game is “grounded in reality”. Fox explained further that they were “trying hard to transport people to 1274 Japan. To help accomplish this, the developers, Sucker Punch, reportedly went as far as to consult cultural experts. Their efforts weren’t in vain though. The game sold more than 2.4 million units in its first 3 days alone. This made the game the fast-selling first-party original IP debut on the PlayStation 4. More importantly, the game received numerous nominations and awards by the end of the year. Perhaps the most significant of these awards is Famitsu’s Game of the Year award for 2020. This made it the first American game to receive the prestigious award. Since its release, Ghost of Tsushima has received numerous free updates, such as a New Game+ option and a multiplayer mode. Legends, as it’s named, is not as grounded as the base game. It is heavily inspired by Japanese folklore and mythology. It lets players choose any one of four available classes. They can either go on two-player story missions and/or four-player wave-based missions. A three-chapter four-player raid is also available as well. Ghost of Tsushima is rumored to be one of the next exclusive PlayStation titles to make its way to the PC after Days Gone.
