The New York Game Awards 2023 gave Elden Ring the Big Apple Award for Best Game of the Year and the Statue of Liberty Award for Best World. The FromSoftware title is the only game to win in multiple categories at the recently concluded annual awards. Elden Ring has already won the prestigious title of Game of the Year at the Japan Game Awards and The Game Awards. It edged out God of War: Ragnarok at the major awards shows. The God of War sequel has been recognized by critics as the only other candidate for Game of the Year for 2022. The New York Video Game Critics Circle hosts the annual event recognizing the best games, actors, esports athletes, and journalists. The Circle is a non-profit multicultural organization composed of “40 of the finest videogame critics, writers, reporters, and bloggers in the nation.” Vampire Survivors, God of War Ragnarok, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and Immortality were also recognized in various categories. God of War Ragnarök was awarded the Herman Melville Award for Best Writing in a Game. Vampire Survivors won the Off Broadway Award for Best Indie Game while Kirby and the Forgotten Land was recognized as the Central Park Children’s Zoo Award for Best Kids Game. Microsoft’s Phil Spencer was also given recognition at the New York Game Awards 2023. The Xbox boss was given the Andrew Yoon Legend Award.
