Thoma’s Talents
Swiftshatter Spear
Swiftshatter Spear is Thoma’s normal, charged, and plunging attack. He can perform up to 4 attacks and his Charged attack allows him to lunge forward, damaging enemies along the way.
Blazing Blessing
Blazing Blessing is Thoma’s Elemental Skill. Activating this skill will cause Thoma to lunge forward, kicking enemies and causing AoE Pyro damage. Thoma will also cast a defensive Blazing Barrier and apply the Pyro element to himself. The barrier’s damage absorption depends on Thoma’s Maximum Health. The barrier can absorb Pyro damage with 250% efficacy. If you cast another Blazing Barrier and you have a remaining damage absorption on the previous Blazing Barrier, it will stack and the duration of the barrier will be renewed.
Crimson Ooyoroi
Crimson Ooyoroi is Thoma’s elemental burst, casting this will cause Thoma to slice at enemies, causing AoE Pyro damage and activating Scorching Ooyoroi. When Scorching Ooyoroi is activated, the character on the field will activate Fiery Collapse, applying Pyro damage to enemies. They will also summon a Blazing Barrier, which can be stacked with Thoma’s Blazing Blessing. The character on the field can trigger the Fiery Collapse every 1 second. The effect of the Scorching Ooyoroi will disappear when Thoma falls, but he does not have to be on the field after activating the skill.
Imbricated Armor
You can unlock this passive at Ascension Phase 1. Whenever the character on the field obtains a Blazing Barrier, the shield strength of this character increases by 5%. You can trigger this effect once every 0.3 seconds. This passive has a duration of 6 seconds.
Flaming Assault
Flaming Assault is Thoma’s passive that can be unlocked on Ascension Phase 4. When you unlock this passive, the damage of Fiery Collapsed caused by Crimson Ooyoroi increases by 2.2% based on Thoma’s maximum health.
Snap and Swing
Snap and Swing is Thoma’s utility passive. Whenever you fish in the Inazuma region, you have a 20% chance to get double the catch. Thoma is one of the first characters to have this kind of passive.
Best Build for Thoma
Thoma is a great support character and his shield can keep characters on the field for longer. His skill also scales off his HP, making it easy to build him. Thoma can also act as a Pyro Sub-DPS, constantly applying Pyro damage to enemies while refreshing the duration of his shield.
Shield Support Weapons
Staff of Homa
The Staff of Homa is a 5-star polearm that you can get through wishes. This polearm has a CRIT Damage substat and gives you the effect called Reckless Cinnabar which increases your HP by 20%. This polearm also gives you a 0.8% attack bonus based on the character’s maximum Health. If the character has less than 50% health, this attack bonus increases by 1% of the character’s maximum health.
Wavebreaker’s Fin
Wavebreaker’s Fin is a 4-star polearm that you can get via Wishes. It has an Attack sub-stat and gives you the effect called Watatsumi Wavewalker. Each energy point from the entire party will increase the elemental burst damage of the equipped character by 0.12%. You can get a maximum of 40% elemental burst damage from this effect.
Pyro Sub-DPS Weapons
Engulfing Lightning
The Engulfing Lightning is a 5-star Polearm that you can use if you would like to make Thoma a Pyro Sub-DPS character. This polearm has an Energy Recharge substat, allowing you to activate your skills frequently. It also gives you the effect called Timeless Dream: Eternal Stove. This effect increases your attack by 28% of your Energy Recharge excess of 100%. You can get up to 80% of the maximum attack bonus from this effect and you will also get 30% Energy recharge after using an Elemental Burst. This effect has a 12-second duration.
The Catch
The Catch is a 4-star polearm that you can get from the Inazuma Fishing Association. This polearm has an Energy Recharge substat and gives you the effect called Shanty. This effect increases your Elemental Burst damage by 16%. It also increases your elemental burst CRIT rate by 6%. You will need to catch the following fishes to get this polearm:

You can exchange the fish in the Inazuma Fishing Association for the Catch. You can also purchase the refinement material for the Catch in the Fishing Association.
Thoma’s Artifact Set
When it comes to farming for Thoma’s artifact set, you have to prioritize the Energy Recharge and HP% substat.
4 pcs. of Noblesse Oblige
If you would like to focus on building Thoma as a support, you can equip 4 pieces of Noblesse Oblige on him. 2 pieces of this artifact will increase his Elemental Burst damage by 20% and 4 pieces will increase your party member’s attack by 20% after using an Elemental Burst. You can get this artifact set in the Clear Pool and Mountain Cavern.
2 pcs. of Tenacity of Millelith and 2 pcs. Emblem of Severed Fate
This artifact set is great if you would like to increase Thoma’s HP while keeping up his Blazing Barrier all the time. 2 pieces of Tenacity of Millelith will increase Thoma’s HP by 20%. Equipping 2 pieces of Emblem of Severed Fate will give Thoma a 20% Energy Recharge, allowing him to summon his Blazing Barrier more often. You can get the Tenacity of Millelith artifact set in the Ridge Watch domain.
4 pcs. Emblem of Severed Fate
The Emblem of Severed Fate is a good artifact set if you want to maximize the Crimson Ooyoroi damage of Thoma. 2 pieces of this artifact set will give you 20% Energy Recharge and 4 pieces of this artifact set will increase your Elemental Burst by 25% depending on your Energy Recharge. You can get up to 75% of bonus elemental burst damage using this effect. You can get the Emblem of Severed Fate artifact set in the Momiji-Dyed Court.

Team Compositions
Thoma is a Pyro support character, adding him to a team with a Pyro DPS like Hu Tao is optimal because he does not heal Hu Tao like Bennett and provides Pyro Resonance. As a shield support character, he is a great addition to vulnerable characters on the field like Eula, allowing them to stay on the field longer.
Hu Tao Team
Hu Tao will act as your main DPS in this team. Thoma is a great addition because he is a Pyro character that applies a shield but does not heal. Hu Tao can have an extra boost in damage while Thoma’s shield can keep her in the field for longer. You can also add Xingqiu as a support for extra shield and Hydro element, or Aloy as a Cryo Sub-DPS. Lastly, an anemo character like Sucrose or Venti can keep your enemies clumped up together.
Childe Team
What makes Thoma a great partner to Childe is that he can constantly apply Pyro to enemies even if he is not on the field. Childe will act as your main DPS, causing a constant vaporized elemental reaction to enemies. You have to watch out for Childe’s cooldowns, though. Adding Bennett to the team can give you Pyro Resonance and extra healing. Lastly, Kazuha can act as your Anemo support and sub-DPS.
Free to Play Team
If you are looking for a free-to-play team for Thoma, you can use him as an Elemental Support. Aloy will act as your main DPS, applying Melt reaction to enemies. You can add Kaeya to the team to act as a sub-DPS and battery, giving you Cryo resonance. This will increase your CRIT Rate. Lastly, Barbara can act as your healer and Hydro support character. You can also swap out Aloy or Kaeya with Xiangling if you would like a reverse-melt party instead.
Summary
Thoma is a 4-star Pyro character and the housekeeper of the Kamisato Clan. Thoma can give shields to his party members and absorb a lot of incoming damage from enemies. His kit revolves around his maximum health, which is why you should prioritize both Energy Recharge and HP% when farming for his artifacts. His Elemental Burst allows him to apply the Pyro element to enemies even when he is off the field.
