Marvel’s big Hall H showcase was one highlight after another. However, you can argue that one of the biggest and most-hyped announcements was the first trailer for Black Panther 2. After months of relative silence, Marvel Studios finally unveiled everybody’s first look at the upcoming sequel. Now, it’s very understandable why Marvel waited a long time to reveal the official trailer. With this year’s San Diego Comic-Con setting the perfect stage and several months’ worth of marketing all to itself, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever could be the first non-Spider-Man MCU film to make over a billion at the box office once it premieres. The first Black Panther: Wakanda Forever trailer does the perfect job of honoring the legacy of Chadwick Boseman. With Wakanda’s monarch dead, the world’s most advanced nation is in mourning. To make matters worse, the threat of the underwater nation, Atlantis, will give them and the rest of the world little time to grieve. As the trailer shows, Wakanda will have to figure out how to move on from losing its dear king just right after the events of 2019’s Avengers: Endgame while fighting against a group of amphibian humanoids. In the Marvel comic books, the kingdoms of Wakanda and Atlantis are almost always on opposite sides. It remains to be seen if this is the case in the MCU. From what we can tell in the trailer, Tenoch Huerta’s Namor and the rest of Atlantis appear to trace their origins to Mayan cultures, seemingly confirming earlier leaks. Also, their sudden emergence seems to have started a potentially calamitous confrontation with the rest of the surface dwellers, or better put, the rest of humanity. In addition to the returning cast from the first Black Panther, the Black Panther sequel will also welcome Dominique Thorne’s Riri Williams, who will join the MCU as Ironheart in her own show next year. We’ll know more about what kind of story Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will tell when it hits theaters on November 11.
